Nice to see you post!  I can't add much more.  For me the answer usually lies in what my numbers are throughout the night.  Thank goodness I don't have to do this too often, but I will set the alarm clock for 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. and then check right away when I get up at about 6 a.m.  There may be a lot happening after that 12:30 a.m. test that you are not seeing.  It's not fun to do this, but without doing it you really don't know what is happening.  What time do your night lows usually take place? 

Someday I may use a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor.)  I don't want to be hooked up to it, but I think it could really aid in managing blood sugars if you know how to use it properly.  Cost may be a hinderance for me though.  Is a CGM an option for you?
