I tried the pump and really liked the ability to customize my insulin through out the day no matter what activities I engaged in. That being said I was not a good match for the pump due to very slow healing at the infusion site. You could still see the site was open even 10 days later with the tissue was hard and red around the site. My skin was really sensitive to the tapes also. My Endo decided I was at to great of risk for infection. Pump training gave me good foundation that helped me to do a better job with MDI. My HA1C tests come in around 5.9 to 6.3.
I went back to Lantus and Humalog still get good control but I do have to plan my days out before I inject Lantus so I always use Lantus in the am. I trim back my Lantus injections by as much as 20% on days that I am in the mountains hiking and many times I can skip Humalog during much of the day and reduce my normal insulin to carb ratio with my evening meals. It can take 2 to 3 days for my body to adjust back to my normal insulin to carb ratios.
