Hi Ladies.....

To be honest, I was kinda gung-ho at first, but not so any more.  In the beginning, I would change out the sensor on the 6th day and immediately put in a new one.  For the last month I've been wearing the sensor for 6 days but then I give my abdomen several days to a week before inserting another one.  I did have to shut off the alarm because it was driving me crazy going off at all times, especially during the night.  One advantage of the CGMS is that you can correct a high (or low) sooner, rather than waiting 2 hours or so after a meal.  I also was impressed to see how certain foods raised my BS.  I still tested 8-10 times a day and on the advice of my trainer, calibrated each time whether I was low, normal or high.  In doing this, I found my meter & sensor readings were pretty close together, and not way off as some have experienced.

I saw my endo on Tuesday.  My A1c dropped from 7.5 to 7.1.  I lost 5 of the 7 pounds I gained over the last four months so I was happy with that.  We talked about the CGMS and how I was doing with it.  I was honest with my endo and told him I didn't have it on that day and that I hadn't worn it for almost 2 weeks.  He said I was not his only patient to do this......that the CGMS is like a toy......you're excited to play with it when you first get it and then after that, it gets pushed aside.  He would like me to wear it at least once or twice a month, and I told him I would.

I was not able to order the kit through Focus Pharmacy (I get my strips & pump supplies from them with NO co-pay) because they do not carry it.  I ordered it through Medtronics.  They told me my co-pay was 20% ($296.00) but here it is 4 months later and I still have not received a bill from them!
