While we were traveling this past month I had two encounters with people concerning diabetes that I thought were kind of
interesting. Thought I'd share them with you.
We were at Silver Dollar City one day (where we were attending a music festival celebrating the American Cowgirl). We'd brought along some snacks and
found some benches behind two of the craft booths. It was pretty secluded and I figured I could test my sugar and take a shot without being noticed. But when
we got back there, on the far side was a man with two children doing their homework. I tried to be discreet when I checked my sugars, but the little girl
(about 8 years old) said to me "Are you a Type 1 or a type 2." Luckey said he noticed the little boy (about 12) nudge his father when I was testing.
So I told them I was type 1 and asked if one of them was diabetic. The little boy said he was and we had a quite a conversation. It was pretty neat. I
asked if he'd tried the pump and he said he had, but he was too skinny and so went back on shots.
On our way home this week, we met another couple in a campground in California who were from Oregon. He had some physical problems that limited his driving.
I mentioned I had diabetes and he said "That can be cured, you know." Oh boy, I thought! Anyway he insisted he knew this doctor in Mexico who could
"cure anything." I said I was on insulin and he said, "oh, that's all right, he can cure it." He said the doctor takes some blood
samples, sees what you need from that, mixes up some concoction and gives you 8 shots and you are cured! WooHoo! I have the doctor's business card and
phone number, if anyone is interested! ![]()
