I recently got an e-mail from Sarah (Diabetes Living). She asked me to let you know the following information:
"I have a comp that is not reported often with Type 1, and that's osteopenia. Please relay to Alyson that Caroline needs to be on calcium supplements all of her life ASAP! 1500
mg per day, 500 mg at one time. I am shocked that more doctors are not on top of this!!!! Studies say that most young females with Type 1 have low bone density as early as late adolescence, but women are rarely given a bone density test at that age because they are considered "too young". My doctor is now testing her other female Type
1's. (I guess, I'm the poster child, lol). I've already shrunk an inch and am on Miacalcin nasal spray daily."
