This afternoon, I was minding my own business in the living room watching some boob tube when I heard a large thump outside. I went to the window, and a car had hit a house at a rather high rate of speed. I had my wife call 911 while I went to the accident, and the woman at the wheel had a diabetic braclet. I gave her a couple of glucose tablets that I always carry around with me, and then waited for her to come out of the haze.
The cops came and took over, but an officer told me that it was a good thing that I was able to get her to chew the tablets. She is going to be charged for her accident, and though I didn't get a chance to talk to her, she probably checked her sugars at home and went about her day.
A good reminder to all of us to monitor our glucose, carry emergency sugar and wear medical alert jewlery.
